Only some of the parts that are not metal was sent to Japan from the US to build this engine. The first person I talked with in customer support did not give a correct answer by saying the parts were made in the US and sent to Japan to be assembled. I think Mike knew what he was talking about because he said anyone was welcomed to call him. He said it was a joint venture and I said "yes I realize that but to break it down all of the metal castings and building of the Vanguard engine is done by Daihatsu in Japan" he said that is absolutely correct. The parts that are made from other materials comes from the US to Daihatsu because America has better plastics and rubber. He said Daihatsu machined the metal parts and built the engines because the metal could be bought so much cheaper in Japan and they had all the machining tools necessary for making and building these engines. He said the design for the Vanguard big block air cooled engine was done by Briggs & Stratton in the US.
